Talden's Birthday

Talden's Birthday

Volcano Cake!
It is kind of hard to see but the volcano is made
out of Devil's Food cake and then we covered it with
melted chocolate and drizzled it with Hershey's syrup.
The rocks are made from chocolate covered cookie
dough bites and crushed Oreos. The light red lava,
river and grass are made from white chocolate with
food coloring and the animals are plastic.
The hot lava is from cherry pie filling...
Talden's favorite! :)
(And we lit it with sparklers/candles)

Happy Birthday Talden!
We love you.

That cake is awesome!!! My kids would freak out. I want to make one for Andrew, he would be so excited. What is the blue river made out of, I can't tell but it looks like a river. Did you just bake it in round pans, stack it and shape it? amazing. Great job and Happy Birthday to Talden!

Sandra... it was so easy because the decorating is supposed to be messy. I used three Pyrex bowls to bake the cake. I used 2 boxes of mix... you can choose the right bowls by staking them upside down to see what fits together. Then I just stacked them upside down, melted Baker's chocolate on the stove and poured it over the top. The river, grass and lava are from melted white Baker's chocolate that I colored with food coloring. I thinned out the chocolate with a little bit of Crisco... you never want to use water or butter because the chocolate will separate. It really was a fun cake to make. :) You will have to post pictures of yours if you make one for your kids! Oh, and the sparkler candles I got from Wal-Mart by the birthday stuff.
